The PGA TOUR Champions’ HOAG Classic was full of philanthropy and fun.
There’s nothing like the thrill of making a tricky putt into the cup and ending up under par for the hole. If you follow golf, you know the elation, frustration, and beauty of the sport. That’s why we love the Hoag Classic, a fantastic PGA event that showcases the Newport Beach Country Club and our beloved town of Newport Beach.
This year, thousands of fans spilled in from around the globe to be part of the excitement. Here’s a recap of what took place.
Who Came Out on Top?
The expansive greens, gorgeous landscape, and world-renowned clubhouse combined with the energy of the game made this event unforgettable. Massive galleries of fans attended with great anticipation as Kirk Triplett, Woody Austin, Jeff Maggert, and more top players on the PGA TOUR Champions competed to win the title. Ultimately, Kirk Triplett came out victorious--his seventh win on the tour. Attendees enjoyed the excitement of the game as well as the never-ending sunshine of Newport Beach at one of the best venues in the sport.
After his win, Triplett commended the tournament and town. “You guys have it all here in Orange County,” he said. “You’ve got great weather, a great golf course, a fantastic clubhouse, and a great staff.”
Making a Difference
Hoag was proud to be this year’s title sponsor. After a memorable 20 year partnership with Toshiba, this incredible event started a new partnership with the local health care company, taking the reins and calling it the Hoag Classic. The new partnership with Hoag offers an unmatched opportunity to contribute to the health and well-being of our beautiful Southern California community while simultaneously providing a fun-filled, family-friendly event.
Charitable Contributions
In the past, the acclaimed annual tournament raised over $1 million for local charities in a single year--spanning more than $20 million in its entire history. Because of this, the event is the most charitable event included on the PGA TOUR Champions. As a result, it has attracted the best professional players in the business. This year was no different, as tens of thousands of fans gathered to watch their favorites compete and hundreds of thousands of dollars were raised.
What is Hoag?
On February 12th of this year, Healthgrades announced its annual "America's Best Hospitals" list, and for the eighth year in a row, Hoag was included. Since its inception, Hoag has reached out to our community to help the most vulnerable populations. They formalized their commitment in 1995 when they established their Department of Community Benefit, which works tirelessly to help low-income and underserved people in our community.
The organization is one close to winner Kirk Triplett’s heart, too. “I played with many people from Hoag Hospital, and I know that they make a big difference in this community,” he said before thanking the attendees for supporting them.
