17th Annual Field of Honor

As Memorial Day approaches, Castaways Park once again transforms into one of the most meaningful displays in Orange County

As Memorial Day approaches, Castaways Park once again transforms into one of the most meaningful displays in Orange County. The 17th Annual Field of Honor returns to Newport Beach from May 15 through May 25, inviting the community to pause, reflect, and honor the servicemembers and first responders who have dedicated their lives to protecting others.

Presented by the Exchange Club of Newport Harbor, the Field of Honor features 1,776 American flags lining the pathways overlooking Newport Harbor. Set against sweeping coastal views and open skies, the installation creates a powerful and deeply moving experience, one that honors both sacrifice and service while bringing the community together in quiet remembrance.

Visitors are welcome daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with free admission and parking available throughout the event. Special ceremonies will also be held in observance of Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day, offering moments of reflection and gratitude for those who have served our country and communities.

One of the most personal aspects of the Field of Honor is the opportunity to dedicate a flag in honor or memory of a servicemember or first responder. Each dedication becomes part of the larger display, creating a collective tribute shaped by individual stories, families, and generations of service.

Beyond its visual impact, the event serves a greater purpose. Proceeds from the Field of Honor support servicemembers and their families, youth-focused charities, and Americanism programs throughout the local community.

At sunrise, the flags move softly in the ocean breeze. By evening, golden light settles across the hillside overlooking the harbor. The Field of Honor is more than an installation. It is a reminder of sacrifice, community, and the enduring spirit of those who serve.
