With frights aplenty, Halloween and the latter part of October is the season for families to have a scary good time together
No longer just a mere single day for trick-or-treating, Halloween has morphed into a month-long affair with countless events for both children and adults. But what if the whole family wants to get in on the fun?
Don’t be spooked! There’s plenty of hair-raising fun for families in and around Corona del Mar this Halloween season. Here are three family-centered events calling to your brood.
Newport Beach Library
Various dates and locations.
First up is the Newport Beach Public Library. Several of the library’s local branches are hosting afternoon events for children in the run up to Halloween. These include Fairy Tales and Magical Crafts on October 24 at the Corona del Mar Branch, Ghoulish Crafts on October 29 at the Crean Mariners Branch, and Spooky Stories on October 30 at the Balboa Branch.
It all culminates in the late afternoon on October 31 at the main Newport Beach Library with the 3rd Annual Halloween Party. Along with crafts and stories, there will be trick-or-treating around the library, so everyone is encouraged to wear a costume. All events at the library are free of charge.
SoCal's Halloween Harvest FIT FALL 5k/10k
Sunday, October 20, Bolsa Chica State Beach, Huntington Beach.
What better way to prep for all that Halloween night trick-or-treating than with a 5k or 10k run? Just up the Pacific Coast Highway from Corona del Mar at the Bolsa Chica State Beach in Huntington Beach is the SoCal Halloween Harvest 5k/10k. Run in a wig, run in a costume, or just show up, play some games, and cheer on the runners.
Indeed a family affair, the races get started early with the kids’ pumpkin patch dash and a youth ½-mile run. Entry fees range from $20 to $45 with awards given for top times in each age group and, of course, for the best costumes.
City of Newport Beach 3rd Annual Halloween Spooktacular
Saturday, October 26, Grant Howald Park.
It really isn’t Halloween until you participate in the new October pastime of trunk-or-treating, where the back end of a car stands in for the front door of a house. More than just trunk-or-treating awaits revelers at the annual Halloween event held in Grant Howald Park in Corona del Mar. The family-oriented festival features a haunted maze, bounce houses, costume prizes, and a number of food trucks with lots of good eats.
